The mission of Mountain Roots Food Project is to cultivate a resilient food system in the Gunnison Valley by enhancing healthy connections between food, earth, and community.

We foster knowledge, teach skills, and provide opportunities that ensure access to affordable, nutritious food that is regionally based and sustainably produced.

Mountain Roots’ gardens are highly visible, artfully designed spaces that are visited by residents and tourists of all ages. They provide space for organic food production, regenerative agriculture education, and create habitats for pollinators. Our farms and gardens bring our communities together in an outdoor setting that strengthens our connection to the earth and others.

We work to provide everyone in our community with the physical, social, and economic access to local and nutritious food that meet the dietary needs for an active and healthy lifestyle.

The Mountain Roots Food Project is making a HUGE difference in Gunnison and Crested Butte! From farm to school education, working with and supporting local farmers and ranchers, to community gardens and the back yard harvest food box donations, the Food Project is making an impact. The passionate group of staff and volunteers who make it all happen really care about the mission and the community.
