Crested Butte Junior Bike Week: Day 3

Since 2016, we’ve been throwing down the BIGGEST KIDS’ BIKE PARTY ON THE PLANET right here in Crested Butte, ColoRADo – the birthplace of mountain biking!

Junior Bike Week is the only multi-day festival in the world that exclusively celebrates KIDS ON BIKES! We have events happening throughout the week for kids of all ages and abilities with everything from trail work and skills clinics to competitive racing. Most importantly, let’s not forget the ICE CREAM…and yes, we did say ICE CREAM!!

Friday, June 23 – ENDURO & CRESTED BUTTE DEVO MOVIE NIGHT

• 8 am – 1 pm: Enduro stage race for all categories, courses will be announced at least one week before the event. We are extremely stoked to once again include a gravity component during the 2023 Junior Bike Week festival!! This will be the first event of the Junior Bike Week Triple Crown Championships which will combine results in gravity, pump track, and cross-country disciplines. This competition has been a HUGE success since its debut in 2021 and we’re stoked to bring it back in 2023!

• 8 am – 9 am: Athlete Check-In; see details below:

Race fee for all categories is $60/participant (before June 1, 2023; price increases to $80/participant on this date) and includes participant entry to the Kick Off Party, food voucher for Peaks ‘n Pitas valued at $15 (Enduro + Junior Wildflower Classic racers), exceptional course marking & marshals, medical response, custom race plate with chip timing, and your choice of a pair of custom Junior Bike Week socks or a Junior Bike Week mesh Snapback hat. Registration and race fee must be completed/paid online where you will submit an electronic waiver for all Junior Bike Week events.

If your rider plans to compete in the Junior Bike Week Triple Crown Championships, simply select “Yes” for the question “Will you be participating in the Triple Crown Championships?” when you complete registration for any of the three Triple Crown Championships events and we’ll put him/her on the list.

• 9 am: Riders depart Junior Bike Week HQ for pedal transfer, with their assigned SWEEPS, to race start. Categories will make this transfer together and we will start with 17-18, followed by 15-16, 13-14, 11-12, and 8-10. Riders will compete in their respective age-group based on their official racing age determined on December 31, 2023. This is consistent with USA Cycling and we hope this alleviates some confusion for those who participate in USAC events. If you register for the wrong category, your child will automatically be placed in his/her correct race category without notice.

Eight-year-olds racing in the 8-10 age category MUST have an adult with them for safety concerns, NO EXCEPTIONS! The minimum racer age for this event is eight-years-old, again, NO EXCEPTIONS, please. In the interest of rider safety and risk management, we made the difficult decision to eliminate backcountry racing for younger riders. We will have a “friendly” Pump Track Challenge category for younger riders on Saturday.

Race categories for the Enduro event will be the same as the Pump Track Challenge and Junior Wildflower Classic XC races to keep things consistent for the Triple Crown Championships. These categories are 8-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16 and 17-18. There will be awards for the top-3 finishers in each category for male and female participants. Awards for this race will be held at the Junior Bike Week event tent located at the Crested Butte Community School soccer field (818 Red Lady Avenue) at approximately 1 pm. We’ll keep you updated on our timing on the Junior Bike Week Team App.

• 11:30 am – 5 pm: Peaks ‘n Pitas and Fruita Mountain Berry Bowls are open for food vending in the Junior Bike Week Vendor Village.

• Noon – 2 pm: The CB Devo High School Race Team will be hosting a KILLER BBQ lunch for just $16 at the Junior Bike Week Vendor Village. Plate includes a Parker Pastures grassfed burger, Mulay brat, or Garden Burger + bag of chips + cookie + drink.

The Junior Bike Week Enduro is operating under a Special Use Permit on the GMUG National Forest and is an equal opportunity service provider.

Please visit our event registration page to get registered for all Junior Bike Week races, clinics, and to make camping reservations.
