Slow Flow is a mindful, slower paced yoga class that is meditative and emphasizes peace and calmness of body and mind. Poses are held for a longer period of time to teach principles of proper physical and energetic alignment. This means that you can plan on taking several rounds of breath in each pose, instead of moving to each breath.
The challenge in the class comes from holding postures for a longer period of time and the simultaneous steering of consciousness to the awareness of breath and movement that is potent, and profound. Breathing and mindfulness practices are taught in simpler sequences.
This class is approachable for both beginners and more experienced students. It is a great place to start if you are new to Flow-style yoga or anyone wanting a methodically paced, “softer” class that still emphasizes the connection between breath and movement.
Juliet started practicing yoga in New York City in the 1990s. After she moved to Crested Butte in 2001, she was soon lucky enough to live across the street from Monica Mesa who was teaching small, intimate classes in her home. Two wonderful relationships began for her, one with Monica and one with yoga. In 2007 she started teaching in Yoga for The Peaceful’s tiny studio when it first opened, a meditative, slow flow class on Sunday mornings, which she continues to teach today. In 2011 she earned her 200-hour yoga teacher training certificate through Inner Power Yoga. Besides asana, Juliet embodies a daily practice of deep gratitude and amazement for her many blessings, which include her loved ones, pets and the beauty of this amazing mountain town.
